Despite the fact that the PlayStation 5 can do almost everything a PS4 can do, you don’t have to throw those old consoles in the closet just yet as PS4 gets remote access to other PlayStations, including the PS5.

PS4 plays PS5 games via Remote Play

  • Select (Settings) Remote Play Connection Settings Add Device on the PS4™ system, and on the connected device, enter the code that appears on the PS4™ system. For details on Remote Play, visit the PS Remote Play website.
  • On your PS4 you have to Enable Remote play Via Wifi in the Vita connectivity section in the settings menu That is all selected. I do actually have access to the port forwarding but I.

A PS5 console or PS4 console is required for Remote Play. With Remote Play, you can control your PlayStation® console remotely wherever you have a high-speed internet connection. Using the PS Remote Play app, you can control your PlayStation®5 console or PlayStation®4 console from a device in a different location.

You now have an important reason to move the PS4 to another room. Sony has confirmed that that game console is able to remotely access other PlayStations – including the PlayStation 5. A recently published faq says the following about this.

We’re updating PS4’s Remote Play feature. Now, in addition to being able to access your PS4 from a PC or a mobile device, your PS4 can access other consoles via Remote Play too, right on your TV. This includes the ability to connect to your PS5 and stream a PS5 game to your PS4 so you can play it there.

Previously, Remote Play only allowed remote access to your PlayStation 4 via a PC or smartphone, but from now on those options are a lot more extensive.

When you play your PlayStation 5 games on your PlayStation 4 via Remote Play, those games will be streamed in 1080p from one console to another. So you don’t get full access to the full capacity of the PS5, but you can play your games with a friend or in another room. Also, the Windows version of the Remote Play app now offers support for PS5 games. You also stream those games in Full HD, but also in HDR. And yes, if you also use the same app on your Android or iOS device, you can play your PS5 games on it from next week.

Recently, the official PlayStation app on mobile platforms received a new design. You can now do much more with the app than was previously possible; for example, the chat function is back with a vengeance.
